World Neglected Tropical Disease Day 2025

Published on 31 January 2025

Today marks World Neglected Tropical Disease Day, an important opportunity to shine a light on the millions of people worldwide suffering from diseases that are often overlooked and underfunded. These diseases are preventable, treatable, and in many cases, can be eliminated with the right resources and awareness.

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases that primarily affect impoverished populations in tropical regions. Caused by various pathogens, they pose significant health, social, and economic burdens. Many NTDs involve complex transmission cycles, often linked to environmental and vector-borne factors, making control and prevention challenging. They are considered "neglected" due to limited global attention and inadequate healthcare access in affected areas.
