Today is the day to shine a light on childhood cancer. With #ICCD2025 taking on a theme of "Inspiring Action", this year, we're spotlighting collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives from around the world that are emerging to tackle the challenges identified last year, fostering an exchange of effective measures to combat childhood cancer.
Childhood cancer refers to cancers affecting children (infants to age 14) and teenagers (age 15 to 19). Although rare, it profoundly impacts the lives of the affected children, their parents, and caregivers. Cancer begins with a genetic change in a single cell, which can grow into a mass and spread, leading to death if untreated. The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown, though some are linked to environmental or lifestyle factors. The ICCD's three-year campaign aims to address challenges faced by childhood cancer patients, caregivers, survivors, and healthcare professionals. The 2025 theme, "Inspiring Action," focuses on practical solutions and encourages regional efforts to improve childhood cancer care.
