On Saturday, 23rd April 2022, AMSA-Unhas held an event called OSTEON (One Day Visiting Older Generation). This activity is one of the work programs from the Community Outreach Division AMSA-Unhas.
This activity brought the theme "SUGAR: Support Older Generation to a Healthier Life" and was held at LKS Al-Masyair, Jl. Deppasawi In No. 41, Makassar.
The first activity that was carried out with the elderly there was Seat Exercise! This is done to maintain the fitness of the elderly in the midst of Ramadhan and the pandemic which is of course in a fun atmosphere and easy to do. When this exercise was carried out together, the elderly looked fitter and more enthusiastic to do the next activity. After doing the exercise, the elderly played some games and those who could answer would get a prize from the committee! Here, the grandmothers are very enthusiastic about participating in the games.
After having fun together, it's time for health education for the elderly. According to the theme, the topic that were brought to them was Diabetes, which was presented by dr. Raissa Alfaathir Heri, Sp.N and followed by a question and answer session. As is known, Diabetes is a disease that has risk factors suffered by the elderly. And sure enough, there were some elderly people with diabetes when we visited there. We hope that the education from dr. Raissa can be a guide for the elderly at LKS Al-Masyair to always apply healthy living habits.
The activity then continued with the performance of the talents that had been prepared by the committee and flowers were given to the elderly. Here, the elderly seem to really enjoy the songs performed by talent and sing along. After that, the elderly and the committee were then asked to do the “Lettering” activity. Here, the elderly and the committee wrote their impressions and messages about this event, and hopes for the future. The event was then closed with the announcement and delivery of door prizes, donations, and group photos. After the event was closed, the elderly were then directed to conduct a health check (measurement of BMI and blood sugar), distribution of basic necessities, and a bonding session.
We gratefully thank LKS Al-Masyair who have become participants in this year's OSTEON. Hopefully the elderly are always healthy and can meet again on another occasion. We also thank dr. Raissa Alfaathir Heri, Sp.N for his willingness to provide education on this activity. Not to forget, we would like to thank the committees who have worked hard so that OSTEON activities can run well until the end and all of the participants who have donated for this event.
We hope that OSTEON can be a good memory for all parties and bring happiness when remembering it.
