Diabetes is a chronic condition marked by insufficient insulin or poor insulin use, leading to high blood glucose that gradually damages nerves and blood vessels. Its global burden continues to rise, with 14% of adults affected in 2022 and many receiving no treatment, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

Diabetes caused 1.6 million deaths in 2021, nearly half before age 70, and contributes significantly to kidney and cardiovascular mortality. Symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and unintentional weight loss. Type 1 diabetes results from lack of insulin production and requires lifelong insulin therapy, while type 2 diabetes—now over 95% of cases—develops slowly and is often preventable through maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, balanced eating, and avoiding tobacco.

World Blood Donor Day 2025, observed on June 14th, is a global reminder of how vital safe blood is for saving lives during emergencies, surgeries, childbirth, and for patients with chronic illnesses like anemia and cancer. Blood cannot be manufactured—it can only come from generous donors, making voluntary donation essential. Anyone healthy, generally aged 17 and above, and meeting medical criteria can donate and help maintain steady blood supplies. By donating blood, individuals not only give patients a second chance at life but also strengthen the spirit of community and solidarity, proving that one simple act of kindness can have an extraordinary positive impact on countless lives.

Today, we celebrate and honor the selfless heroes who roll up their sleeves to save lives—our blood donors. Every drop of blood donated is a gift of hope, strength, and a second chance for someone in need.

World No Tobacco Day, observed every May 31st, was established by WHO to raise awareness of tobacco's dangers and promote stronger control policies. The 2025 theme, "Bright products. Dark intentions. Unmasking the Appeal," highlights how the tobacco industry targets youth through appealing product designs. Tobacco, consumed by smoking, chewing, or snuffing, is harmful in all forms and contains toxic and addictive substances that damage health. Globally, tobacco causes over 8 million deaths annually, including 1.3 million from second-hand smoke; in Indonesia alone, around 268,600 people die each year due to tobacco-related diseases, with about 52,000 from passive exposure.

It’s time to say no to tobacco! Protect your health, care for your loved ones, and support a cleaner, healthier environment. Every breath without tobacco is a step toward a better future.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, particularly at night or early morning. It involves bronchial hyperresponsiveness, variable airflow limitation, and inflammation that is often reversible spontaneously or with treatment. Diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms and supported by spirometry, showing reversible airway obstruction. Triggers include allergens, respiratory infections, exercise, cold air, and irritants like smoke. Management includes avoiding triggers and using pharmacologic treatment, such as inhaled corticosteroids for long-term control and short-acting beta-agonists for quick relief. In acute exacerbations, treatment may require systemic corticosteroids, oxygen therapy, and frequent monitoring. Education on proper inhaler technique, adherence to treatment, and having an asthma action plan is crucial for effective long-term control and prevention of complications.

Today we breathe with purpose. On World Asthma Day, let’s raise awareness, support one another, and never let asthma define our limits. Every breath is a victory—keep fighting, keep thriving.

Your lungs are vital for every breath you take, yet tuberculosis remains a silent threat to millions. This World TB Day, take action—get informed, get tested, and support early treatment. Together, we can end TB and breathe freely.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*, primarily affecting the lungs but also potentially spreading to other organs like the kidneys, spine, and brain. It spreads through airborne droplets from an infected person’s cough, sneeze, or speech. Symptoms include a persistent cough lasting over three weeks, night sweats, fever, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and chest pain. If left untreated, TB can lead to severe lung damage, respiratory failure, and complications in other organs, such as TB meningitis or bone TB. Drug-resistant TB strains make treatment more challenging. World TB Day aims to raise awareness, highlight prevention and treatment successes, and address challenges in eliminating this disease globally.

Your kidneys are essential for keeping your body healthy, yet kidney disease often goes unnoticed until it’s too late. This World Kidney Day, take a step towards better kidney health—stay hydrated. Let’s raise awareness and protect our kidneys for a healthier future. Love your kidneys, they love you!

The kidneys are bean-shaped organs, about the size of a fist, located beneath the rib cage on either side of the spine. They filter approximately half a cup of blood per minute, removing waste, excess water, and maintaining the balance of water, salts, and minerals in the body. Additionally, the kidneys regulate blood pH, produce glucose when blood sugar is low, and release renin to raise blood pressure. They also generate calcitriol, which aids calcium absorption, and erythropoietin, which stimulates red blood cell production. Each kidney contains about a million nephrons that filter blood through the glomerulus, reabsorb essential substances in the tubule, and excrete waste as urine.

Today is the day to shine a light on childhood cancer. With #ICCD2025 taking on a theme of "Inspiring Action", this year, we're spotlighting collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives from around the world that are emerging to tackle the challenges identified last year, fostering an exchange of effective measures to combat childhood cancer.

Childhood cancer refers to cancers affecting children (infants to age 14) and teenagers (age 15 to 19). Although rare, it profoundly impacts the lives of the affected children, their parents, and caregivers. Cancer begins with a genetic change in a single cell, which can grow into a mass and spread, leading to death if untreated. The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown, though some are linked to environmental or lifestyle factors. The ICCD's three-year campaign aims to address challenges faced by childhood cancer patients, caregivers, survivors, and healthcare professionals. The 2025 theme, "Inspiring Action," focuses on practical solutions and encourages regional efforts to improve childhood cancer care.
