Broken Heart Syndrome, or takotsubo cardiomyopathy (named after the Japanese tako-tsubo pot, an octopus trap which shape resembles that of the heart of patients with this condition), is a reversible cardiomyopathy that is typically preceded by a stressful emotional, physical, or psychological event such as the death of a loved one. For that reason, this condition is also known as acute stress-induced cardiomyopathy.

This disease is a form of acute left ventricular dysfunction characterised by dilatation of the left ventricular apex and adjacent myocardium, with associated left ventricular impairment. The mechanism is poorly understood but may involve noradrenergic coronary vasoconstriction and acute left ventricular outflow obstruction. It is often associated with acute environmental or emotional stress (such as a bereavement) and presents with chest pain, breathlessness and sometimes cardiac failure. It occurs more frequently in women than in men.

In terms of both symptoms and the ECG, the condition mimics acute ST elevation acute coronary syndrome. The diagnosis is usually made at coronary angiography, when CAD is found to be absent or minimal. Echocardiography then shows the characteristic ‘apical ballooning’ of the LV. The dilated apex and narrow outflow of the LV resemble a Japanese octopus trap, or takotsubo.

(A) the x-ray of the left ventricle shows apical ballooning, a reversible abnormality characteristic of takotsubo cardiomyopathy. During systole, the midsection and tip (apex) of the left ventricle balloon out, while the area above, called the base, contracts normally. The shape is similar to that of a tako-tsubo (B), a round-bottomed, narrow-necked vessel used to catch octopuses.

Left ventricular dysfunction usually recovers within 4–5 days, although this can take weeks in some cases. Treatment is with a β-blocker, to prevent arrhythmia, and an ACE inhibitor, to treat left ventricular dysfunction. These drugs are continued only until cardiac function has recovered. It's also important to alleviate any physical or emotional stress that may have played a role in triggering the disorder.

The word "heart" in medical term refers to the muscular, blood-pumping organ. In literature, it could also be defined as something regarded as the center of a person's thoughts and emotions, especially love or compassion. These two definitions are

In medical terms, the word "heart" may refer to the muscular, blood-pumping organ in the human body instead of the metaphorical "center of a person's thoughts and emotions, especially love or compassion." However, our physical and emotional or psychological health are not mutually exclusive. To take good care of our body is to take good care of our mind and well-being.

National Action Event is an annual national event that AMSA-Unhas has the honor to host this year. With the theme TRIAGE "Trigger Your Action in Emergency Condition," AMSA-Unhas is proud to be the host of the 2018 NAE. The event lasted three terrific days, starting from 16th to 18th November 2018.

First Day - 16th November 2018

As soon as this year's NAE delegates arrived in Makkasar, they went straight to Academic Evaluation as the Winner of PCC EAMSC (Pre-Conference Competition East Asian Medical Students Conference) presented their hard work to the judges at Hassanuddin University. After that, they went to Auditorium RSUH for the special welcoming party organized by the committees.

Second Day - 17th November 2018

On the second day, there were two activities that the delegates were divided into. Some delegates were heading to NRPC presentation at LT.5 FK UH and some were competing at Ruang Molar FKG UH for the debate preliminary round. After finishing the NRPC presentation, the delegates were then divided into 10 groups for the next activity, lecture. The lectures were given by 10 different outstanding lecturers who presented different emergency topics from 10 different departments. After which, the delegates were transferred to Gedung Mulo where hundreds of high school students had been waiting for them. The delegates had the chance to share the knowledge that they had discussed from the lecture to the high school students not only through campaign, but also some case demonstration on how to deal with emergency situation around us.

Having finished both activities, all the delegates were transferred to MaxOne Hotel to get their costumes ready to next attend our dazzling Halloween theme Farewell Party at Rumah Walikota Makassar.

Third Day - 18th November 2018

And finally, last but not least. 18th November was the last day of National Action Event 2018, but AMSA-Unhas still had activities in line for the delegates. Similar to the previous day, there were two activities that the delegates were divided into. Some delegates had the chance to listen to Research Time brought by dr. Firdaus Kasim, MSc at Auditorium RS UH, while the others continued to compete for the debate semifinal round at Ruang Pertemuan Ilmiah Neurology Departement RSP Unhas. Having finished with research time, the delegates continued to learn more from The Social Hour brought by Indonesian Future Leader. To top it all off, having finished with all the previous activities, all the delegates gathered together to watch The Debate Final Round at Auditorium RSUH which ended tremendously.
Congratulation to the winners of the debate competition!
